Beacon Hill School and Sixth Form works to meet the needs of a range of young people with learning difficulties in a variety of different ways. Primarily, we are a school for young people with severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties aged 3 to 19 years of age.
The school is divided into First School (EYFS, KS1 and lower KS2), Middle (upper KS2 and KS3), and High School (KS4 and KS5). We also have a Sixth Form department which is based at TyneMet college (Queen Alexandra Campus).
Beacon Hill is commissioned by the local authority to manage the Portage and Pre-school Home Teaching service & LEAPS panel, the Sensory Support Service, and the Independent Travel Training Service
The Portage and Pre-School Home Teaching is offered to children aged 0-3 years with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The Sensory Support Service is for children with hearing and/or visual impairment. This is mainly a mainstream provision and we are proud of the impact the service has on the lives of the young people and families it works with.
Within school we have various other support services, including School Nurses, Physios, Occupational Therapists, and the Speech and Language Team.
